Doing All Things Through Christ

One of the most quoted verses in the Bible is also one of the most powerful. Philippians 4 verse 13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse is not about achieving worldly success or accomplishing your personal goals. It is about the sufficiency of Christ in every circumstance. Paul wrote these words from a prison cell. He was not talking about winning a sports competition or climbing the corporate ladder. He was talking about the ability to face any circumstance through the strength that Christ provides.My dear friend, there will be things in your life that are beyond your natural ability. You will face situations that are too hard, too heavy, and too overwhelming for you to handle in your own strength. In those moments, you have a choice. You can collapse under the weight, or you can draw on the strength of Christ. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Not some things. Not easy things. All things. The strength of Christ is available for every challenge you will ever face.Think about Paul himself. He wrote in Philippians 4 verses 11 and 12 that he had learned to be content in every situation. He knew how to be abased and how to abound. He knew how to be full and how to be hungry. He faced beatings, shipwrecks, imprisonments, and ultimately execution. How did he endure all this? He did it through Christ who strengthened him. Paul did not have natural strength for what he faced. He had supernatural strength.Think about David facing Goliath. David was a young shepherd boy facing a giant warrior who was over nine feet tall and covered in armor. By every natural measure, David should have been crushed. But David did not rely on his own strength. He relied on the strength of the Lord. He said to Goliath, "I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts." And through Christ's strength, David defeated the giant.Think about Samson. When the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, he had supernatural strength to do things that were humanly impossible. He killed a lion with his bare hands. He tore down the gates of Gaza. He killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. Samson's strength was not his own. It was the strength of the Lord. This is a picture of what is available to you through the Holy Spirit.So how do you do all things through Christ who strengthens you? First, acknowledge your weakness. You cannot do all things through Christ until you admit that you cannot do anything without Him. Your weakness is the starting point for His strength. When you are weak, then you are strong.Second, depend on Christ daily. Do not try to live the Christian life in your own strength. Every morning, acknowledge your dependence on Christ. Say, "Lord, I cannot do this day without You. I need Your strength for everything I will face today."Third, draw on the Holy Spirit's power. The Holy Spirit is the source of supernatural strength. When you feel weak, pray in the Spirit. When you are tired, ask the Spirit to refresh you. When you face opposition, ask the Spirit to empower you.Fourth, speak words of faith. Do not say, "I cannot handle this." Say, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Your words release your faith. Speak what you believe, not what you feel.Fifth, look back at past victories. Remember the times when Christ strengthened you in the past. Those past victories are evidence that He will strengthen you again.What this produces in your life is the ability to face anything with confidence. You do not have to be afraid of any challenge because you have access to the strength of Christ. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. That power is available for every situation you face. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.Let us pray. Father, I confess that I am weak, but You are strong. I cannot do this life in my own strength. I need Your strength for everything I face. I declare that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I draw on Your strength today. Holy Spirit, empower me. Give me supernatural strength for every challenge. I do not rely on my own ability. I rely on Christ who lives in me.
