Raising, Loving and Advocating for Her Son with RACHEL BARKER

from Beautiful Shifts · host Lindsay & Shantil

Rachel is a wife of 30 years, mother of five children, and has two beautiful grandchildren. Today Rachel shares the touching story of adopting her son Noah, who is now 13, and what it has been like raising a Black son in Utah. She shares about the gift of adoption, the delightful person Noah is, and is honest and vulnerable about some of the challenges that have come with racism they have experienced. Rachel does a wonderful job addressing the delicate topic as she shares her experiences and perspectives.   Rachel has been a motivational speaker for over 20 years using experience she's gained in the nutrition industry and obstacles in life, and considers her life's work using her voice for good and encouraging others to do the same. Rachel created an annual non-profit formal event called The Galentine's Gala where women from all over Utah gather to honor carefully selected recipient as well as celebrating each other.    Find Rachel on Instagram @dear.rach where you can follow her fun, uplifting content.   Thank you again, Rachel, for sharing your story with us!   ..................   We hope you enjoyed the conversation. Wherever Life Takes Us whereverlifetakesuss Join three best friend as they explore this beautiful world! Half Ties kwamenabrace Half-ties is a conversation series on the funny, beautiful and sometimes challenging moments that interracial couples experience being with somebody who’s culturally different from them.Hosted by creative couple Olivia & Kwamena, we listen to stories about growing up with racism and prejudice; falling in love and meeting the in-laws; navigating difficult conversations within the family and in society, and how these couples make their relationship work and what they actively choose to pass down to the next generation. C.S. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
