Rambam on Counting Mitzvos de'Rabbanan in Taryag (Sefer ha'Mitzvos Shoresh #1)

from Rambam Bekius · host Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! This afternoon (3/1/22), in our Rambam Bekius chavurah, we began a side-topic tangentially related to Purim, prompted by my Friday Women's shiur on the nature and scope of Rabbinic authority. Our goal today was to review the Rambam's position on why mitzvos de'rabbanan are not counting in Taryag (in contrast to the Behag's view), as presented by Moshe Halbertal in "Maimonides: Life and Thought" and in light of our own learning of the primary sources. Tomorrow (בג"ה) we'll tackle the topic I'm really interested in: What is the nature of the halachos and limudim that are derived through the middos she'ha'Torah nidreshes ba'hen?----------מקורות:Moshe Halbertal, "Maimonides: Life and Thought" רמב"ם - ספר המצוות, שורש ארמב"ם - משנה תורה: ספר שופטים, הלכות אבל יד:א----------This week's Torah content has been sponsored by Sarah, in memory of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks zt"l, who changed many lives with his Torah and sterling middot.----------Bekius Disclaimer:Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
