After earning a Ph.D. in archaeology, and enduring years in the corporate archaeological and cultural resource management trenches, Bryon started a consulting company. Work through the decades has led him to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South Pacific, and the Americas. In this profession, overland travel frequently presents as a vocational necessity, rather than a purely adventurous pursuit. Bryon remains an avid photographer, EMT, and a certified public safety off­­–pavement vehicle operations instructor. Admittedly, certain past endeavors like flying single engine planes or skydiving have become distant memories. He appreciates driving around the greater Santa Barbara area in a 1978 Toyota BJ40, tinkering on vintage motorcycles, and producing small lots of red wine.
