Ranim Shaheen - From Palestine to Space: The Woman Breaking Barriers in Aerospace

Send us Fan Mail What does it take to rise beyond displacement, doubt, and rejection — and reach for the stars? In this powerful special edition of Chatting with Slava the Jordanian, STJ sits down with Ranim Shaheen, one of the first Palestinian American women selected on a path to space. From her family’s beginnings in Gaza and Ramallah to growing up in Houston, Texas, Ranim’s journey reflects resilience, identity, and relentless ambition. Currently contributing to the development of next-generation spacesuits that will return humans to the lunar surface, Ranim’s path was anything but linear. From human resources to entrepreneurship to engineering — she defied cultural expectations, overcame self-doubt in male-dominated spaces, and embraced failure as fuel. This episode explores the courage required to break internal and external barriers, the mental health conversations often silenced in Arab culture, and the determination forged through being told “no.” Through raw reflection and grounded insight, this conversation challenges listeners to reframe rejection as redirection, confront limiting beliefs, and redefine what is possible — especially for first-generation immigrants navigating identity and ambition. A must-listen for anyone pursuing purpose beyond circumstance. Support the show Stay Connected and Join the Conversation! We want to hear from you!
