Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – July 17, 2022
from Rapidly Rotating Records · host Glenn Robison
Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s. You are probably familiar with the song “Orange Blossom Special,” the unofficial anthem of bluegrass. You may be less familiar with the passenger train of the same name. In the last segment of this week’s edition of the show, you’ll hear the Rouse Brothers play “Orange Blossom Special” and you’ll find out how the song and the train are related. The first segment of the show will have not the usual three records, but twice that many! That’s because they are Little Wonder Records and you’ll find out all about the label and hear six fine examples. In other segments, we’ll do some yearning and craving, but we’ll take time to stop and smell the blossoms. There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. ENJOY THE SHOW! Here’s the complete playlist: Segment 1: Little Wonder Records Back To The Carolina You Love – Baritone (Al Jolson) – LW 20Pass The Pickles – Band – LW 37He Owes Me Ninety-Seven Dollars – Tenor Solo (Maurice Burkhart) – LW 164That Broadway Chicken Walk – Banjo Solo (Fred Van Eps?) – LW 568You Don’t Need The Wine To Have A Wonderful Time – Tenor Solo (Jack Kaufman) – LW 1293Cutie – Band – LW 1598 Segment 2: Wonder I Wonder How It Feels – Paul Specht AHO / Unidentified Vocal Trio, v.No Wonder I’m Blues – New Orleans Ramblers / Ben Pollack, v.Wonder Bar – Ted Fiorito AHO / Dick Powell, v.
