Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – June 5, 2022

from Rapidly Rotating Records · host Glenn Robison

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s. So why in the world am I showing you a photograph of a grave marker?  Well, this is the headstone for the Baxter family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On this week’s show you’ll find out about the patriarch of the family, Alfred Baxter and his son, Howard Frances Baxter and their connection to radio. This is a special episode of Rapidly Rotating Records in which you’ll find out the history of a number of different radio stations from the 1920s. It doesn’t follow our normal “five-topic-three-records-in-each” format, and it has a lot of information along with ten records and I hope you’ll find it as fascinating as I do.  So set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different–and we thing better–musical era.  ENJOY THE SHOW! Here’s the complete playlist: Segment 1: WEBH Edgewater, Illinois Winter Interlude – Harry Sosnik and His Edgewater Beach Hotel Orchestra / Bob Hannon, v.Then You’ve Never Been Blue – Ted FioRito and His Edgewater Beach Hotel Orchestra / Dusty Rhodes, v. Segment 2: WBOW Terre Haute, Indiana On The Banks Of The Wabash Far Away – The American Singers Segment 3: KSCJ Sioux City, Iowa Iowa Corn Song – American Legion Official Band (Monahan Post, Sioux City, Iowa) / Ernest Lower, v.  Segment 4: KSBA Shreveport, Louisiana Shreveport Farewell – Little Brother (Montgomery)Fence Breakin’ Blues – Shreveport Home Wreckers Segment 5: WASH Grand Rapids, Michigan Go Wash An Elephant (If You Wanna Do Something Big) – Gene Morgan & His Lowe’s State Theatre OrchestraOn A Laundry Wagon – Two Dark Knights Segment 6: WBBC Brooklyn, New York Born And Bred In Brooklyn (Over The Bridge) – Bob Haring’s Velvetone Orchestra Segment 7: KVOS Bellingham, Washington Breezin’ Along With The Breeze – Seattle Harmony Kings Segment 8: KPCB Seattle, Washington Your Biscuits Are Big Enough For Me – Bo CarterHow Many Biscuits Can You Eat – Dr. Humphrey Bate And His Possum Hunters   THANKS FOR LISTENING!
