Rattle - The Crew

from The Tabernacle Sermons · host The Tabernacle

In Ezekiel’s vision, the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet,(Ez 37:10). The rattle of revival begins individually, but is lived out and sustained collectively in community. The triune God exists eternally in community. God created man in his image and declared it not good for man to be alone. Jesus himself said he could do nothing on his own (Jn5), and chose a crew of twelve men to do life with. Yet despite these examples many Christians still insist on trying to follow Jesus independently and in isolation. Spiritual self-sufficiency is sin, and most of our failures happen when we are cut off and alone. But when we choose Biblical community and find our crew of fellow disciples to follow Jesus with, we are stirred up to love, good works, and encouraged (Heb 10:24-25). The point is simply that the Christian life was not meant to be lived alone. If community was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for us. To see God’s breath of life in our dry bones, we need to find a crew in the church to roll with.
