Reacting to ESPN's 2023 FPI + Debuting My Potential Power Index | College Football 2023

from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker

ESPN just released their Football Power Index for the 2023 season. There are several things I agree with and disagree with, though I do think this year's FPI is not as asinine as last year's which had Notre Dame and Texas inside of the Top 6. Ohio State made a surprise appearance as the No.1 team in the country, with Alabama and Georgia following suit at No.2 and No.3 to complete the 3-team tier that typically makes up the mountain top of College Football. LSU followed as the 3rd SEC team in the Top 4, showing how dominant the SEC has been in football. The Michigan Wolverines were slotted at No.6, which is the lowest I have seen anyone rank Michigan for the upcoming 2023 season. Notre Dame and Penn State rounded out the Top 10 and No.9 and No.10 respectively. Out of those 2, I think the Irish are overrated while Penn State football is properly rated or slightly underrated. As someone who sometimes gets bored of ESPN's antics, I have decided to make a metric that is complementary to the FPI, as to sure up its weaknesses and bolster its strengths. This is called the Potential Power Index, which tries to measure team potential and success based off of not just recruiting, but also player development and roster depth. Find more about the Potential Power Index by watching the whole video! I will be posting updates and making more content on the PPI during the summer and regular season.
