Read it All Before: Hidden Pride Exposed
from The Clarion Call
In this devotional episode, Nici Mathis confronts the subtle form of pride that hides behind familiarity with Scripture. She shares how she almost skipped Tiffany Haynes’ Blue Letter Bible lesson — thinking she already knew it — until the Holy Spirit revealed how easily experience can turn into arrogance. Through examples like Naaman, Jonah, Saul, and the people of Jesus’ hometown, Nici uncovers how pride, assumption, and stubbornness cause believers to miss fresh revelation. She challenges listeners to slow down, stay teachable, and allow God to show them new truth in old verses. Key Scriptures (NLT): Proverbs 16:18 • 1 Corinthians 8:2 • Hebrews 4:7 • Hebrews 4:12 • John 1:1 • John 16:12–13 • Psalm 119:18 • Mark 6:1–6 • 2 Kings 5:10–14 • Jonah 1–4 • 1 Samuel 15:13–23 • Isaiah 55:8–9 • Luke 24:25–27 • Psalm 25:9 • Matthew 13:52 Takeaway: “Hidden pride shows up when we fast-forward through what God is trying to teach us. Read it again — as if it’s the first time.”
