Reading Interventionists Become Business Gurus with Mikayla Storey

from The CEO Teacher Podcast · host Kayse Morris

In today's podcast episode, I have the pleasure of interviewing Mikayla Storey and this podcast interview is unlike any I've done before but in the best way possible! I'm so excited for you to hear the journey of Ascend Smarter Invention and how Mikayla Storey and Corey Pollard got their brick and mortar business started with no business background at all.  Ascend Smarter Intervention started a few years ago as a brick & mortar business and has since evolved into an online business as well. We have an Educational Private Practice that serves struggling students, primarily those with dyslexia and other related learning disabilities. We developed a program for these students that has created massive results and wanted to share it with other teachers, interventionists, and Speech-Language Pathologists. That's when our online business was born.  We started with a Reading Intervention Curriculum and training program and it has now expanded to include a 5 Core Components of Literacy Membership Site, our Delivering SMARTER Intervention Curriculum and Training Course, a course for parents going through the special education process, and our Summer Side Hustle program that teaches teachers how to start a brick and mortar business running summer reading groups & provides them with done-for-you materials.    When the Private Practice opened, Corey Pollard, our founder and owner, did not have a business background. When I joined the team and we launched our online business, neither of us had business, marketing, or technology backgrounds. Our backgrounds were in psychology, research, and education. We believe so much that teachers & other educators don't need business backgrounds in order to create a business (either a side hustle while in the classroom, or as a full-time business) that shares their gifts with other educators, and in turn, kids. A mission of ours is to help teachers "take back their power" and create a life they love. In this episode, you will learn: How Mikayla and Corey created a business with no business background How to connect with all the stakeholders when working as a support to students How the private practice translated to an online business What to keep as your main thing when you're just getting started Why taking imperfect action brings clarity Links Mentioned:  Three Tips to Get Started Building a Successful Business Connect with Mikayla and Corey:  Ascend Smarter Invention Website  Connect with them on:    Instagram Facebook Pinterest  Youtube TpT   DOWNLOAD MY 10 STEP GUIDE TO SELLING YOUR TEACHING RESOURCES HERE!  CEO TEACHER® RESOURCES:  Check out my CEO Teacher® Amazon books HERE!  JOIN OUR COMMUNITIES:  The CEO Teacher® Facebook Group Connect with Kayse on Instagram   ENJOYING THE PODCAST?  Tag me @kaysemorris on Instagram and tell me what you are listening to!    SUBSCRIBE AND REVIEW  I don't want you to miss a thing!
