Reading list crosses constitutional boundaries

Editor: The State Board of Education’s decision to add exclusively Christian Bible stories to the public-school reading list is not simply misguided. It is unconstitutional. Public schools are bound by the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which prohibits government from endorsing or privileging any particular religion. When a state agency elevates Christian texts while excluding Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and other religious or philosophical traditions, it abandons the neutrality the Constitution requires.
