Reading Luke In Lent - Luke 17:20-18:8

Today's podcast for 'Reading Luke in Lent' looks at Luke, Chapter 17:20-18:8. In Jesus the kingdom is present but it will not be fulfilled until the end of time when Jesus will come like lightning or dazzling white as experienced at the Transfiguration (Luke 9:29). The disciples will be ready and not look back. When Jesus was first asked to teach his disciples to pray he taught them to say ‘Your kingdom come’. Now he teaches the disciples to pray continually and not lose heart. To help them understand he gives a parable about a patient and persistent widow. The first widow we met in Luke’s Gospel was Anna who prayed night and day. She was ready when the Son of Man came and was presented in the temple and recognised that through him redemption would come. To seek the kingdom and to pray for its coming are part of what it means to be a disciple.
