Ready Or Not: parable of 10 virgins and the narrow gate

Two parables. Two closed doors. One question we all avoid until it gets personal: am I actually ready to meet Jesus, or am I just close to Christian things? We sit by the Campfire and take on Luke 13:22–30, where someone asks Jesus if only a few will be saved and He answers with a gut-level command: “Strive to enter through the narrow gate.” We talk about why Jesus doesn’t play the theoretical game, what it means to strive, and why “I was around it” is not the same as surrender. Then we move to Matthew 25:1–13, the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, where ten people are invited, but only some are prepared for a delay. Weston connects the oil and lamp imagery to life in Malawi, where fuel is not a metaphor, it’s survival, and where missing the right moment means missing the whole window. That real-world lens makes the parable sharper: delays happen, sleep happens, doubt happens, and readiness has to be built before midnight arrives. Along the way, we wrestle with a hard truth: you can’t borrow spiritual preparedness. You can’t hitchhike into the kingdom on your parents’ faith, your friends’ faith, or your pastor’s relationship with God.
