Each candidate gave a speech at the town hall. 3. Campaign: Activities to get people to vote for a candidate. The campaign volunteers knocked on doors to promote their candidate. 4. Primary Election: An election to choose a party's candidate. The primary election decides who will represent the party in the main election. 5. Incumbent: The current officeholder who is running again. Sentence: The incumbent mayor has a strong chance of winning again. 6. Polling Place: A place where people go to vote. My polling place is at the local elementary school. 7. Absentee Ballot: A ballot for someone who cannot vote in person. I mailed in my absentee ballot last week. 8. Electoral College: A group of people who formally elect the president and vice president. The Electoral College meets after the general election to cast their votes. 9.
