Jemma says she grew believing her dad was her hero. But when her mother died and left him to bring her up along with her 4 siblings, life changed. He was no longer her hero but a very strict disciplinarian. She felt bereft of the love she needed. Now she realises that, for her dad, putting food on the table and keeping the roof over their heads was his way of showing love. The tough discipline was his way of caring.
