For instance, during Jesus’ earthly ministry, the religious leaders wanted to kill Him because He was interfering with their control over the people. But the religious reason they gave for wanting to eliminate Him was—He was guilty of blasphemy. Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, but it would cost him too much to offend Caesar.
