How do you begin to reimagine a legendary piece of art? Do you want to update it to modern times? Do you think it can be improved upon after such critical success? The story of 'Rebecca' was previously brought to the big screen back in 1940 by Alfred Hitchcock when his version of the story won Best Picture at the 1941 Oscars and has been adapted for TV & the stage since that time. We discuss the differences between the novel, the Hitchcock version, & Wheatley's most recent take, as well as, whether the update to Mrs. de Winter's character arc makes her a stronger, potentially heroic woman. PLOT: After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a newly married young woman (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband's imposing family estate on a windswept English coast.
