Jay, how are you doing today? I'm good, Tyra. How are you? I can't like a plane.
I can't like a plane. So first of all, thank you for joining me tonight. I appreciate it. I really do.
My pleasure. OK, so tonight we're going to be talking about rebuilding your team. That's going to be the media show. But before they happen, before we get into that, I want to talk about Lani Lowe's comment about all Black Me and Cheer.
Now, I mean, for the last few weeks, there's been a lot of Black male passion. And I just, and I'm just up there. Like, I'm from one of Tyra over there. And she was like, oh, and Black Men get into a powerful position that they tend to cheat.
They tend to have affairs. And they feel like they develop this thing or where they feel like they can't be told anything. But also what I noticed is she's married. So like, let me point that out.
So how do you feel about how calmness that all Black men cheat or all Black powerful men cheat? How do you feel about that? I think she was coming from a place of wealthy Black men cheating. There's true to Black men cheating, just like there's true to all races of men cheating.
I do believe that when you have a successful man who may tend to get bored that he will cheat. But that's not to say that it'll be all Black men. You have broke Black men that cheat. So just like you have that work non-stop and still find a way.
Because if you want to cheat, you're going to find a time that cheat. And that's just what it is. But that's not just Black men. She had a point when she tapped on the fact that we are conditioned with broken homes and the homes are broken down by our oppressors.
That's truthful. I agree with her. But that doesn't give her the right to create a stigma that all Black men are all Black. I'm sorry, powerful men with money to cheat.
I disagree. As I do, they have white men with their cheat. And all the times, not with men. Sometimes with animals, sometimes with children.
Yeah, I just did that. I just said that. But it's so tough. I just said that it was dishonest.
Yeah, it's dishonestly. And for her to do that, she had to broke white men at home for how to say that and not even be able to get a man to sufficiently take care of her, to sufficiently support her. I think she was very out of bounds with that. But that she was very out of bounds, just even George Black men.
Because it takes us so much harder for us to make it already. But to have all these ones person say something and then they try their law. One person does something. They try their law.
All Black men are doing something. That's very unfair to me. Because Black women cheat too. Absolutely.
Black women cheat too. I think that you have Black women who are successful, who have become bored with whatever situation or situation they may be in and seek out other men. You also have some women, like you mentioned, that she has a white husband. She has a white husband who is broke.
So maybe she was strategic about how she chose her mate. She already has a certain outlook on it. So check that off. That's going to white men.
And then the other issue that she has is a man that has money. Forget the fact that it's a Black man with money. So she finds a broke white man, the opposite of the thing that has apparently traumatized her in her life. Now, is she speaking from personal experiences?
I believe that. But I think that that should have been acknowledged when she set out on this platform to kind of diminish Black men. Because like you said, you guys have it harder. Then you're counterparts.
So if the woman doesn't believe in her man and the man feels that, then that's no motivation. That's no motivation for him to get out there and want to work off of his family and come back home to his family and be able to resist temptation. If people got to have your back, your woman would have to have your back and vice versa. I think men need to believe in their women more.
Black, if we want to separate the races and just keep it all Black, I don't think that we have enough faith in each other to build a Black home. And let's just take cheating out of the equation. Just as partners. I have to trust and believe in you just to be a good person and a good man, somebody that can lead me as your wife.
And we talked about this before. A man needs to feel respected. If you don't have faith in your man, then okay, that's disrespectful to him. In turn, he doesn't feel loved.
So he's going to go out and seek love in other people. Yes, you preach it right now, keep on. Go ahead, I want to say amen. Amen.
This man's out there cheating on his woman. And he's not giving her the affection she needs because he's giving it to another woman. So then she doesn't feel loved. So, you know, but yeah, I think that it was tasteless for how to say all men or use a platform to save men with money.
Do men with money cheat more than a broke man? Possibly. Because if you have a broke man that's always on a hustle and working on, you know, creating a legacy or creating, you know, financial freedom for him and his family, he doesn't have time to entertain women. Really, he can find the time, but he's going to have less time to, you know, for somebody.
This is my thing, well, he's unemployed. So he's not even, you know what I'm saying? He's not even on a hustle. And she has a nerve to tell a black man.
Well, yeah, I mean, but don't you think that she strategically picks him out as a mate? Yeah. If she's beating him, if she's beating him, his financial freedom, you know, and she keeps a paper trail on him, then she's controlling him. And men do it also.
If you have something that they're the brand winner, they have all the, all she did was reverse the roles. You know, you have a lot of men that have money and they have the power and they don't want their women to work. And so they keep, they keep them on a leash, you know, in ways of financial freedom. You know, if the woman has to constantly go to him for money, then he's watching her.
Mm. You know, if something's a little different and she got something new, he knows that she doesn't, she can't provide for herself. So I have a question for you. What is a functional relationship, your opinion?
Functional? Mm-hmm. A functional relationship is number one, communication and trust. And two, pouring into your partner, you know, like, you pour into your partner and that helps your partner to trust you and vice versa.
So you need to be in a relationship that you guys help each other and you feed each other, you know, and you build each other up. And I think that that's just like the foundation for functional relationship. But we all have this function in us, you know, no relationship is perfect. So it's hard to really answer that because each person is different and relationships operate differently.
That sometimes still seem to work. So what works for you and I, if we're in a relationship, we now work for another couple. So I think functionality is just what works for you in your relationship. But trust and communication and building one up, that's what I would aspire to have in a partner, in a relationship.
I brag on you behind your back. I'm just gonna tell you why. Why? Because I said, I said, I'd be like, I think I went to you at the home at a bar.
I was like glad I went to you because you have a feminine energy about yourself. And most people don't get what I mean by that. Like I think that as far as like feminine goals, like you're a great example of feminine women. I think that I've been running into a lot lately women that are masculine based.
It's a part of working, I'm sure. It's definitely, it's definitely, it's definitely, it's like, especially when you say, okay, I'm looking for my partner to lead and things like that. Like, and I'm in need like, in point, I can go in and say it, I can say this about myself. I'm a bit of a chauvinist, I'm a bit of old school, I have old school tendencies.
I could be a chauvinist sometimes. I'd say, hey, I'm a man, I need to do this. And I need to do that. I get it and it's supposed to be modern times or whatever the case is.
However, having feminine energy, that's a plus. You know what I'm saying? Like, just having like a woman having a masculine vibe is a huge turn off. Well, thanks, Tires.
I never, I never broke myself down as energy. You know, it's fine. You know, it's feminine versus masculine. So thank you, I'll take that as a compliment.
It is one. It is one. Thanks. But on to the media show though, we were talking about, I want to talk about rebuilding and as a case study, I want to use the Duwala Saints.
Now we are both now from K you're from New Orleans, but I've been the same span my whole life and I've been room for the same my whole life. And before 2006, we went to some bad times and same span. Mm hmm. You guys are terrible.
It was. Up and tailpink. Yeah. Yeah, it's a little fun.
But you know what they did though, they stripped the whole team down from the general manager on down to the coaches and they just stripped everything down and started over with a new quarterback, a new coach, you know, a whole new brand new team and a whole new culture. And that day we as people need to do that. And you know, we build a team, it's alright because when you encounter people in life, you kind of want to hold on to these people. However, as I grow older, I realize that some people are beneficial to your team and using a football referee, sometimes you got to cut some players and cut your losses because they're not performing during a position in a great manner.
They're just pointing at you. Now before the 2006, they understand for the last I got a league. But when they go ahead. I said, yeah, I was a green one.
Yeah. Now, but now I mean, like I think I've written on some statistics and we're before 2006, we were in the leagues in 1965 and we only made the playoffs five times. From 2006 up until 2000, this past season, 2018, 2020, we made the playoffs eight times with the championship boot and we've been to the NLC championship game three times. Now that's a vast improvement over the last 40 some of the years.
Right. And I think we as people, we sometimes hold on to people too long. We hold on to people too long. On our staff, we got to look at the self as a friend.
You got to look at the self as the owner of your own friend as you are the business, you are your business. And sometimes you got to strip your team down. Everybody from the ground up. Yeah, I agree.
Every bush needs to be prone if you want to see it flourish. And so that means cutting parts off that has been there, but it's no longer conducive for the overall life of the bush. So same thing with your team. Because you can't always break bad habits in other people.
And sometimes you can only inspire and encourage and motivate so much. Everything I believe in seasons and I think that seasons take their turns. Nothing good or bad lasts forever. Everything changes.
Everything rotates. Everything evolves. And as far as your team, your team can be your business, your team can be your family, your team can be the people on your job, your team can be your friends. So I think that overall they all have the same concept, as far as cutting some bad things off that are no longer conducive for the life or core, whatever it is you're trying to produce or flourish.
Right. And in my opinion, you know who the most important person on your team will be? Who? Who will be a physical response?
You know why? Because that's going to be the person that's leading next to you. Yeah, that's the person that since we're talking about teams and how I said before, you have to be able to trust your partner. And you have to believe in your partner.
To lead the team to grow with the team, however way the team works, you have to trust your team. Me. And we want to talk about functional relationships. That's one way to look at your relationship as your team.
Your team for life though. Because it's hard cutting people off not to encourage cutting your spouse off, but inspiring your spouse or your partner to prove certain things about themselves that doesn't work for them and in turn doesn't work for the partnership or the marriage. You know, in building them up instead of, you know, you can look at pruning as a build up instead of a tear down. Oh, it's all in high.
I guess it's all in high. Oh, explain it. Explain it. Well, you know, there may be something about tyros like tyros is chauvinism that I don't like.
So by way of pruning that chauvinism as its partner, my approach would be to encourage you and give you different perspectives that you can, you know, view chauvinistic ways or ways that you can view the opposite sex. Oh, so I wouldn't just be tearing down the walls or pruning the bush, but I'll also be feeding it so that, you know, it's like we talk about the condition or the things that we need to uncondition ourselves with. But if you're not there to replace which you're unconditioning with a new condition, then you will never create an uncondition, if that makes sense. Like you have to have a solution for the problem in place.
And that's the only way you can change behavior. You know, I can't set out to do something and continue to do the same things. I have to replace it with something like, or like better example, if I'm on a fast, a food fast, my body still needs protein. So I may not be eating meat, but I need to eat my nuts and the other things that will give me and replace my meat protein.
Because I don't want to lose my protein, I need my protein, but I choose a different protein, a better protein in that season so that I can have successful fast. Right. Huh. Oh, it's a different perspective.
I'm gonna take that in. That's just like the light, just from there. But we're doing, you know what stamming sticks out to me on during my homie made the statement. He said, the meat you choose will either inspire you to go into your greatness or compile you to complacency.
They will either be your other half or make you half of yourself. And I think that is very true. Uh-huh. That's sacrifice.
That's sacrifice. Right. Right. Right.
Because, you know, like for myself, for example, when I was engaged at the time, I was getting, I was being sabotaged from within this whole time. And I talked about that a lot because I'm like, you gotta be, you gotta use more discernment. I think that's one of your words that you use too. I like that you use that word too.
You gotta have some, you gotta have discernment. And sometimes you got to, you got to start a player, you draft it on number one. But sometimes the players are buzzed. You're like, yeah, I might have a host for you.
You hear this, I thought you're like, this is gone. Yeah, they're gone. But sometimes that player just ain't no good. Yeah.
And you gotta, it just gotta cut them. Some people are, you know, you have to cut. Some habits, you have to cut some bad ways, some foods, whatever it is that it's not conducive for you in your season, you know, you may have to cut. That doesn't mean that, like, if we're talking about people, but we also, I'm talking about seasons too.
So if I have to cut you because you're not conducive for me in my season or you're not going to help me get to a place that I'm striving for, then I have to cut you. But that doesn't mean that you won't come back into my life later. So let me cut you now so you can flourish later in my life. If you are to come back in my life, you know, so.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So me was, was the other number one that I'm going to come back on.
I like, I like kids. It's nothing wrong with looking back, you know, or not looking back. I'm sorry. It's nothing wrong with not looking back.
You know, but sometimes it's harder to, and then, you know, you can talk about forgiveness too. Like you may need to be a little more forgiving because, like, I learned from someone long ago that, because I had the same attitude up your cut from my life. You don't work in this season. You're not going to work in anything.
And that was just my motto. And then. Right. I was taught that sometimes you cannot burn all bridges, because my blessing in my future may have you involved.
And I will be able to get to my next level if I don't allow you in. So, you know, spiritually, you know, that's what God teaches us in some lessons. And I was a lesson that I needed to learn. Now, am I there completely?
No. Have I let some people in that have hurt me? Not as much. You know, but the last thing that I want to do is not get to my next level.
Huh? Hello? I can hear. Yeah.
Okay. I'm back. Um, you know, so. Yeah.
Yeah. Tires. Yeah, you're back. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't know what happened. Um, but yeah, I mean, long story short, you know, it's just sometimes, you know, you can't put up all the walls. Until infinity, you know, some people you have to let back in, because they are the key to your next level, your next level.
You know, it may not be an ex, you know, but it may be a friend. It may be, you know, I don't know, it can be a family member. Whomever you've cut off, you know, it may be a place in your life later in your journey. So, I'm still learning that.
And that's like you have to be humble to be able to receive something like that. And it's easy. It was always easier for me to just cut people off. Talk about a chat.
Somebody back in there. You know, let somebody back in and talk about to a lie on you or somebody that, you know, you got ill vibes from in some other season. Ooh, that is a candle. Absolutely.
That's a big chance. But absolutely, but I can't let my life and my elevation be on hold because I'm stubborn. And I'm so hurt that I can't, you know, I'm so clouded and can't receive my next season or my next level. So, you know, speaking of friends, I said another important person on your team is your friends, your associates, because they had this saying, if you hang around with, right?
Like, very little feather flag together. Also, one of my favorites, they say if you hang around five million years, you'll eventually become the sixth. That's one of my favorites saying because I'm trying to find this big enough friends. I'm trying to find this big enough friends.
If you're listening, we want to be on a million Fs. Yeah, please, you know, don't try to be friends with the big enoughs. So I can learn how to, you know, get on it. But I think that's a big important piece of your team and just having some resources for people around you, people that get something that's done when you may be unable to.
Yeah. That can help you out and give you information. But I also say, like, I'm taking my earlier family, having the support system that's very important. And I want to be very clear about this because when I talk about family, I'm not just talking about the ones that's given to you.
I'm talking about the ones that you choose. So, the family that you choose is very important. Yeah. I got a lot of brothers and sisters.
A lot of cousins, aunts and uncles, you know, that I didn't have, you know, given to me, but I chose them as such and more like because what they did is they showed up when I knew they came in my family, they were lending ear to me and they're very supportive of me and everything that I did. And that's very important. And it could be like the smallest of the people saying to me. Like, I think I brought my real talk about time.
So I see you trying to build things from the ground up. He was like, he was giving me like kudos for that. And that motivated me even more. You know what I'm saying?
Whether you realize it or not. But that motivated me even more. And that made me even want to go even more hard. So, and I keep that thought in my head.
That's how my son said it one time. My son was like, it wasn't even talking to me. He was talking to me. He was like, my dad never gives up.
That's one of his best qualities. And I was like, wow. I was like, wow. because I was like, I got somebody watching me day by day looking at my routine.
And the person is watching me and telling me I never give up. And that's a good quality that I have. He's not even telling it to me. He's telling somebody else.
Right. So, you know, how that was? It followed the mirror. Yeah, you know, you being watched.
You know, people watch you. You know, when you're doing good, it really doesn't go unnoticed. I mean, just like when you're doing better, it doesn't go unnoticed. But it's so much better to know that you've inspired and encouraged another human being to to be great.
So, right now, how's your team looking, Jaz? My team's looking good. And I'll talk about work team. I got a really good report from my job, just, you know, in some confirmation and just inspiration and motivation to keep going.
So much so. I wanted to go into work on my off days. I'm not doing that. But that's just how inspired I was this evening, you know, in just building other people.
And it's a good feeling when you feel like you're in the right place at the right time and you're building people and you're being built and held up by your team at the same time. Wow. So yeah, the team's looking the team's looking good. What about your size?
My team is on. We were in the rebuilding stages, but I'm ready for championship season, Jaz. Okay. My championship season.
I think we're ready for championship season. We rebuilt. We got everything. I got everything.
I wanted. I got people around me that I can trust people that are running around me. That's going to motivate me and I'm going to motivate them to be better each and every day. I'm raised that standard season every day.
It's looking good. Looking good. I'm ready for championship season. Oh, great.
Championship all the way. Championship all the way. Might go undefeated. Let's see how it goes though.
Might go undefeated with no else. We ain't taking no else in 2020. No more else. We done for else.
That was, that was, that was actually, and maybe, um, maybe I need to work on this too, but as soon as I see something that I don't like, or I feel like I'm going the wrong way, I'm nearly back away from it. If the situation is better from the get go, I'm nearly back away from it. Because, and I know you said it takes a lot of people and people that's been talking about having your back and doing certain things, certain things on your back. And it's even harder for me because it's like a big thing with me is trust.
So if I don't trust you, then I can't be around you. You know, so because in my opinion, I'll be trusting you with my life. Because if you're in my opinion, I have an extreme mindset. So in my opinion, if you're willing to talk down on me behind my back, if you're willing to betray me in a way, you're willing to kill me.
Or you're willing to, um, give me a kill or some type of way like that. But yeah, that's just my experiences or what I've seen. Okay. You know, so yeah.
Yeah. Well, so anybody out there that's rebuilding the team, do you have any advice for them? Well, how to build a good one? So, you know, in my experience, building a good team will be to be the number one leader.
You know, there are ways that you can get your team to be on board genuinely, you know, by showing them how you want the team right, if that makes sense. Like if your team see you working and your team sees you doing the things and setting the standards and they can trust that you're not one to just delegate and expect from, but you're one to also work with. You know, no one wants to feel bossed around, you know. So yeah, I mean, you want a good team, you have to be a great leader.
And you have to be an open leader and you have to be a humble leader. You know, you are the strength of the team. So I guess for me, it would be look within and set your own expectations for yourself and then, you know, and inspire and motivate other people and they will do for you without you even asking. So find you somebody that's for the team.
And not for the conditions. Explain that. Oh, yeah. Explain that to business boy.
Well, you want somebody to be with you unconditionally, you know, you want you want team players. You don't want someone to just be on a team to go through the motions because it feels good in that moment because as soon as it gets rocky, then they're going to flee. So you're looking for team minded people, not people that are only on the team for the conditions and for the circumstances in that moment. Okay.
Okay. We have a good talk right now. Yeah. Yeah.
But by the side that we got to get out of here. So leave us with something to know about the statement. We go through our journeys. We're going to meet a lot of people along the way.
You know, some people are just stick with us for a long haul and then some people are just for the seasons. So like if you if you're focusing on building your team or whatever that team, maybe it can be your own job or it can be your own business or it can be your family, you know, look to yourself and look to God for leadership and guidance so that people can trust in you that you're leading in the right way and then they can be unconditional with you and for you and be for the team. That's all right. You got anything coming up?
Just like I know around this time you got like, you said like, what are you going to do? What are you going to do? Oh, yeah. Um, so this, this year I'm not doing it.
Okay. I don't have the time to do it. Oh wow. I don't, I just, I don't have the time to market it.
Now I told a couple of people that I would do some shoes for them on the side. But it's, I can't, I don't have the time to market it and be able to do it 100%. Yeah. You know, so just some little sideline things, but nothing full blown.
Not this either. Make sure you let me know when you do. Yes, sir. I sure will.
Come over the hell out of that. I've had some success though. I've had some success. It's really kind of bittersweet for me, but I'm just on a different wavelength as far as, you know, my time and what, what I have time for and what I thought.
So this year I'll take a, I'll take a break. And then next year, who knows? Okay. Well, I want to announce this.
The trailer to, I just dropped the first trailer to the documentary, New Orleans politics. I think it's, you know, BIMI, I won't put on Instagram, I have a cell phone on Instagram. I'm playing on YouTube as well. People can view it there.
I'm in South Florida and Baltimore. So we're going to do some business in Baltimore. It looks like I do. Oh great.
Yeah. Yeah. People, people interested in the film. And I suppose it'll be on radio this Monday coming up on the 20th, one of the King day, how's that?
Especially within, wow. Wow. Hello. Hello.
So, you know, but I'm. Congratulations on it. Yeah. Thank you so much.
I appreciate it. I can do it without encouragement and just supporting me all the way. And everybody does support me. I did very humble by it and it really means a lot to me.
Even though I don't see it all the time because, you know, I got to have this, you know, this wall up sometimes with people. Yeah. I would have worked on it as well. I would have worked on it as well.
And some people, some people can't get it to heaven. Even heaven's got gates. But that's true. I have them got gates.
But I just want to take the sound, think everybody that supports me, everybody that contributes to the podcast. And this, man, this happening, this really happening. Yeah. I'm very humble by it.
And I just want to thank you for joining me. I appreciate it. No problem. My pleasure.
Thanks for having me. Anytime. And we just spoke truth to power. I want everybody to have a good night.
Good night.
