The church’s discipline addresses real-life obedience, not merely church offenses, because God’s Kingdom, not the institution, is the goal. Within a biblical view of government, self-government and family responsibility are primary, the church exercises moral and spiritual jurisdiction, and the state is only one limited sphere among many.
