Recap: Safer Personal Care Products

from Today’s Gut Health Tip · host Melissa Hall Klepacki, M.Ac.

Each day, as we get ready for our day, we put on our favorite fragrances and cosmetics and unknowingly subject ourselves to toxic chemicals. Over time, these toxic chemicals can cause cancers, tumors, bronchial issues and other health related problems. There are toxins everywhere.  The average US woman puts 168 chemicals onto her body DAILY.  Yes, 168. (Men average around 85.)   Since our skin is our largest organ, and absorbs everything we put onto our skin, we need to take measures to ensure that what we put on it is as natural as possible. Fragrances commonly contain parabens, phthalates, and synthetic musks that may cause hormone disruption, reproductive problems, or possibly cancer The exact ingredients in synthetic fragrances are protected as “trade secrets” and therefore do not have to be disclosed on the label. Listen in.  Choose safer products and if you want to hear more backtrack in the podcast to the week of May 28th for more. Also remember www.ewg.org and their companion phone app can help you make better, safer choices.
