Reconnect with our oceans with Sail Britain's Oliver Beardon

Britain has some of the most incredible coastline that you can find anywhere on Earth, so why not celebrate that? This is what Oliver Beardon has done, turning his passion for sailing into something he can share with others. Oliver loves the creative arts and sharing sailing experiences with other people. Wanting to combine both these passions, Oliver launched Sail Britain, a programme of sailing expeditions aimed at inspiring positive change for the ocean. Each programme brings together people from diverse backgrounds on a boat for a week or two and each expedition has something for the group to focus on, whether that is artistic, scientific, or to do with health or wellbeing. Sailing experience is not required. In this opening episode of Great British Adventures, we discuss Oliver's story of setting up an adventurous, new enterprise that combines both his passions. We learn how he managed the toils of Covid-19 when he was just about to launch, why he chose to champion the Great British oceans, and what we can all do to keep the health of our seas in good order.
