Welcome to the Tweep Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl! And you are tuned in to Tweep Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. I don't know about you, but I think it's time for us to reconsider what's important. Let's get started. Let me ask you a question.

I don't think I've ever asked this question before. How was your day? As for me? As my mother would say, it was a time in the land.

It started off like any typical weekday morning. Got up? Fixed our daughter's breakfast? We got her off to school.

But when we hit that door, we walked across the threshold. It was as if we had entered another dimension. All of the plans that we had set in place to actually accomplish today, as far as my to-do list, barely anything got crossed off. We called an audible.

We ended up going and doing other things, running other errands. So it's not that things didn't get done, but they weren't the things that we had planned on doing. And in the midst of those new plans that we created, from out of the blue, I was starting to have feelings of nostalgia. I just couldn't help but to think back to times when we lived in Florida, when I lived in South Carolina, just different times than different people.

And so I reached out to them. I sent them little messages like, Hey, long time, hand talk to you. Just want to let you know that you're on my mind. I don't know why they came across my mind, but they did.

And because they did, I reached out. And some of them replied back and others didn't. It wasn't a requirement because I wasn't expecting some message to come boomerang back to me because I was being obedient. I had to do what I needed to do, what my spirit was telling me that needed to be done.

And so I did. And, you know, we ran here and there and everywhere. We did our errands. And then a little bit before it was time to go get our daughter off of the bus.

My husband received a phone call and he was made aware that one of his good friends had passed away. And I wasn't in the room for the conversation, but by the time I came downstairs, he was done. And I could tell just looking at him, his body language and everything, he was hurting. And I can understand that because the person, the friend of his was a good guy.

Just a really good guy. I have to admit, I've met some of these friends of his and I don't know that all of them fit on that good range. But this guy, yes, he was top notch. And it hurt to see my husband hurting.

And then it's like, you know what? We need to have a reset. We need to reconnect. We need to figure out what those things are in life that are really important.

And we know that we can't do this by ourselves. That as a human being, we yearn for community, for fellowship. And therefore, we all need to do better. Because you'll get caught up in your day-to-day routine.

Life happens crazy things in life happen. And you deal with it and you're so stuck on you, that sometimes friends get pushed to the side. Sometimes family gets pushed to the side. I only worked 16 minutes today, 16 minutes.

But it was intentional. I intentionally didn't do any more work today. When my daughter got home from school, we played video games. We sat on the couch together, we giggled and laughed.

And it felt good. I've got another question for you. When is the last time you did something for yourself? We always do everything for everybody else.

Everybody's so important. I can't let them down. But when's the last time you did something for yourself? Think about it.

When did you drop everything, take a mental health day off from work, and go to the beach and just sit there and watch the waves. Or go for a walk, go get a massage, get your hair done, or cut, or when is the last time you've done something for yourself? Or how about a vacation? When's the last time you've been on a vacation?

Really, it wasn't one of those pretend vacations where something came up and you had to go someplace and you called that a vacation. Because that's not a vacation. It's not. That's some type of business trip that you maybe took a few minutes to drive past a site.

Oh, look at that. That's not a vacation. We all have to come to the realization and understand that we might like to do things for other people. But unless we are taking care of self, there's going to come a point where because you can't even take care of yourself, you're not going to be able to help anybody else.

You're not going to be any good for them. So why run yourself in the ground prematurely? You're going to get there anyway. We're all going to go there.

And it's a tough thing to come to grips with. But it's true. Just think of that and make me think of my dad. I must have thought that my father was a superhero because never in my wildest dreams did I think he would pass.

And there's regret there because there are things that I wish that I had asked him that I had leaned on him a little bit harder to tell me. Things that I asked him, but he didn't tell me. It's like, maybe I should have asked a couple more times. Maybe he would have finally said, okay, okay, let me tell you.

But it's one of those situations where, like I said, I did not think he would ever not be here. And that was foolish. That was foolish of me to think that. And because of that, I may have lost time with him.

I might have lost, you know, just family information. And I think we all do that. So once again, we need to kind of rethink the things that we are calling important. Here's your last question.

When is the last time you actually sat and listened attentively in a conversation with someone? Now, I don't mean you and your good girlfriend, dishin' back and forth. That's not the type of conversation I'm talking about. When is the last time you had a conversation with one of the elders, somebody older than you, way older than you?

Or when is the last time you had a conversation with a little child? You would be amazed at the gems you would get from either conversation. But you have to listen. You have to pay attention.

And I know this because that's me. I like to do that. I like to know what's going on in people's lives. I want to know.

If you're going to tell me, I'm going to have questions. And I'm going to have questions on top of questions because I want to know. And it hurts to hear when people say, oh, yeah, I'm not going by there because you know she's going to talk in this any other thing. Or situations where, like I've had family members that were diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

And it was obvious because they would repeat themselves and they wouldn't remember things. But you asked them about something that happened way back when. And they knew every single bit of that detail as if it happened earlier that day. You might not think that you want to have that conversation because you're like, oh, they're just going to repeat the same thing over and over again.

But dive in. Take the time to listen and ask questions. Take them back. And then they'll, oh my gosh, what you would get from that is absolutely amazing.

Conversational gold. But everybody's not like that because everybody's in a hurry. What are we in a hurry for? What are we rushing to?

To the grave? What's the rush? Why can't we sit and listen to each other? Why are we so into our cell phones and apps and technology that we would rather send a quick text to somebody than to give them a call?

Why is that? Now I'm not against texting by all means. Let's not even go there. You can send somebody a text, but then follow it up with a call.

Let that be your reminder that you need to give them a call. I talked to my niece last night. And when I got off the phone, I'm grinning ear to ear. I mean, and it was the conversation was all over the place.

We had highs. We had lows. We had all those places in the middle. But it felt good to hear her voice, to talk to her just to find out what's going on in her life.

And I know we can't spend our entire day doing that, but we've got these smart phones. Use the, use an app in there that will give you reminders and just remind yourself maybe once a week, check in with somebody that you haven't talked to in a while and just see how they're doing. You would be amazed, one, at how good it's going to make you feel, but I'll bet you money that you're going to make your money. That you're going to make them feel better.

Thank you for joining me for today's episode. Thank you for listening. I really appreciate that. And like I said, today has been a day.

And then finishing it off, watching the final episode of the TV show, Black-ish. That's kind of what tied all of this together in knowing what's really important. And I hope that this is causing you to think about the things in your life that are really important. The people, the connections that are really important, and not just the things, not the material things, because those things can be gone in a flash.

As well as those friends, they can be gone too. So which ones do you want to spend more time with? The car, the house, or the actual people that you can interact with. So having said that, I hope you have a great rest of your week, rest of the day, rest of the month, rest of the year, rest of your life.

Just enjoy yourself. Find a little time every day to do something that you enjoy. Okay? Have a good one, and I'll see you again on Thursday.
