Recovering the Form
from The Daily Meditation with Brother Richard
In this meditation, I guide you back to the foundational form of the practice. These “recovering the form” episodes are a good place to begin if you are new, and an essential way to return and renew if you have been practising for some time. Like any skill, meditation deepens through repetition, and returning to the form helps to build steadiness and ease.We begin by settling gently into posture, allowing the body to soften and the breath to move naturally. From there, awareness deepens through simple imagery, breathing as if through every part of the body, releasing tension, and resting more fully into the present moment. As the practice unfolds, we are reminded that we are more than the body, more than our thoughts and emotions. We return to a deeper centre of awareness, resting in stillness, light and presence. This meditation offers a moment of calm, whether you are pausing during the day or winding down before sleep, helping you return to the foundations of breath, awareness and inner steadiness.Chapters 00:00 – Introduction 00:17 – A place to begin and renew 00:38 – Returning to the form 01:00 – The bell 01:28 – Ritual gesture 01:45 – Sitting with gentleness 02:10 – Inviting the body into meditation 02:57 – Breathing through the whole body 03:20 – Releasing stress and tension 03:32 – Breath as vapour 04:45 – Breath as golden light 05:05 – The still pool of the body 05:58 – Breathing in and out 06:05 – I have a body, but I am more than my body 07:45 – I have thoughts and emotions, but I am more than them 08:15 – Moving to the centre of being 08:40 – Resting in stillness 08:56 – I am I 09:12 – Choosing to meditate 09:30 – Breathing in and out 10:40 – Returning to the room 10:55 – A moment of gratitude 10:59 – Closing bell Hosted on Acast.
