Red Bags, Red Tape, and a Neighborhood Cleanup | UK News

A whole neighborhood cleanup in Newport, Wales, ground to a halt—not because of trash, but because volunteers used the wrong color bin bags. The council insisted on official red bags from Keep Wales Tidy, but ghosted requests for them, even though locals had already bought 2,000 themselves. Frustrated volunteers say this petty bureaucracy is slowing down their mission to keep streets clean, while the council claims approved bags help distinguish volunteer trash from illegal dumping. With no response from the charity after a week, Pride in Pill vows to keep going with their own red bags—proving good intentions can’t always beat red tape.
