RED SOX POSTCAST: Crochet Shines in Game 1 Start; Sox Take Game 1 of ALWC Series in the Bronx

The Red Sox (89-73) came from behind and beat the Yankees, 3-1, in Game 1 of the Best 2 out of 3 American League Wild Card series Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Aroldis Chapman loaded the bases on 3 straight singles with nobody out in the 9th but retired the next 3 hitters with 2 strikeouts including fanning Trent Grisham to end the game. The Sox are 1 win away from advancing to the American League Division Series. ----- Crochet Day: Garrett Crochet made his 1st career postseason start (5th career playoff appearance) in Game 1 vs. the Yankees Tuesday night and he was terrific. Crochet gave up 2 Singles in the 1st Inning but struck out Cody Bellinger and got Giancarlo Stanton to hit into an inning-ending, Double Play.  After Anthony Volpe hit a 2-out, solo Home Run in the 2nd Inning, Crochet retired the next 17 Hitters before he allowed a 1-out Single to Volpe in the 8th. Alex Cora removed Crochet after Crochet struck out Austin Wells for the 2nd out. Chapman got the final out in the 8th and left Volpe stranded at 2nd Base.  ----- Sox at the Dish: The Sox went in front in the 7th Inning after Yankees starter Max Fried exited the game. Ceddanne Rafaela reached with a 1-out walk and moved from 1st to 3rd on a hustle Double from Nick Sogard. Both scored on a pinch-hit, 2-run Single from Masa Yoshida. Carlos Narvaez walked 3 times in Game 1. He led off the 8th with a walk but was left stranded. Sox did not have a leadoff hitter reach over the 1st 7 Innings against Fried. The Sox added on in the 9th with Trevor Story reaching out with a 2-out Single. Story stole 2nd and scored on a 2-out Double from Alex Bregman. ----- #'s of the Night: --The Save in Game 1 was the 1st 4-out save of 2025 for Chapman.--It's Chapman's 11th career postseason save and his first since 2020 when he was with the Yankees. --The Sox went 2-for-7 with Runners in Scoring Position and left 10 Runners on Base. --Since the Best-of-3 Wild Card Series started in 2022, the team that has won Game 1 is 12-0.----- What's on Tap?: Brayan Bello opposes Carlos Rodon in Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series Tuesday night in the Bronx.
