RED SOX POSTCAST: Red Sox Open Homestand and Fall to Yankees in Disappointing Fashion

The Red Sox (81-67) returned home Friday night to open up a 6-game homestand and dropped the series opener, 4-1, to the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. The Sox have lost 2 in a row and are now 1.5 games behind the Yankees for the top Wild Card in the American League. The Red Sox are now 4.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays.   -----Going with Gio: Lucas Giolito made the start in the series opener and took the loss to fall to 10-4 on the season. Giolito gave up a solo Home Run to Aaron Judge in the 1st Inning and an unearned run in the 3rd Inning. He departed with 2 outs in the 5th Inning and the Red Sox trailing, 2-0.  Giolito walked 1 and struck out 6 in his outing. The Red Sox have lost his last 2 starts and are now 16-8 in his 24 outings on the season. Giolito has now allowed 17 Home Runs on the season and 11 have come with no one on base.  -----Sox at the DISH: The Red Sox were held hitless over the first 6 Innings but Yankees starter, Luis Gil.  The Red Sox had 2nd and 3rd with no one out on a pair of walks in the 5th against Gil and failed to score. Nate Eaton got the Red Sox on the board with their first hit and first run with a solo Home Run off reliever Fernando Cruz in the 6th Inning. The Red Sox went 0-for-8 with Runners in Scoring Position and left 7 runners on base.  Nathaniel Lowe went 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts and is hitless in his last 16 at-bats. -----#'s of the Night:--The Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 games at Fenway.-----What's On Tap?: The Yankees and Red Sox continue the weekend series Saturday afternoon at Fenway.
