Redesigning source control at Anthropic | EP #192

from Guru's Tech Bytes Hosted by AnITGuru

Good morning, it's Wednesday. This is Guru's Tech Bytes, episode one hundred. Ninety two. And folks, I gotta tell you, I woke up this morning and I just, I don't know, I feel like the whole world is shifting under our feet. Like, AI is doing things now that would've blown my mind ten years ago, and I'm just a regular guy with a wrench in one hand and a phone in the other, but even I can see it. First up, so Anthropic, right, they're redesigning source control, and I'm talking about how they're basically rebuilding the whole thing from scratch because, you know, git just wasn't cutting it for their scale anymore. Seven hundred and seventy eight upvotes on that one, which tells you how many people out there are feeling the same pain I do when I'm trying to manage code on a project that keeps growing. Second, Apple HomeView. So apparently Apple's working on this whole new home interface, and I'm thinking, you know, I've got my smart bulbs and my thermostat and all that stuff, and it's always a mess, right? Seven hundred and thirty one upvotes means a lot of folks are just as tired of juggling five different apps to turn on a damn light. I get it. I really do. Third, and this one's funny to me, eleven year old unsoundness bugs found in the Rust borrow checker. Eleven years! And people thought Rust was this bulletproof thing, right? Seven hundred and twenty three upvotes, and I'm just sitting here going, Heh. Hhh, okay, that's something. Because honestly, if you've ever tried to learn Rust, you know it's supposed to be the one that doesn't let you mess up. And finally, Ledger confirms spy chip implant behind wallet crypto thefts. So they actually found a physical chip, like a tiny little spy chip, implanted in hardware wallets to steal people's crypto. Six hundred and ninety six upvotes, and I'm just, I don't even know what to say. You're trusting a little box with your money and someone's already got a chip in it. That's terrifying, man. That's your daily byte. Have a great day. Until next time.
