A partial lunar eclipse will be visible Thursday, August 27, with the moon rising around 7:50 PM and the eclipse reaching its maximum at 9:12 PM. The partial eclipse continues until about 10:51 PM. You'll want a clear view toward the east-southeast because the moon will be pretty low when it first comes up. No telescope required. Just find an open spot, look up, and hope the clouds cooperate. If you've got kids, this is a pretty easy excuse to stay up a little later.🌱 Meet and Green at the Redmond LibraryIf you've been wanting to get more involved with Redmond's sustainability efforts, there's a free community gathering Thursday, August 27, from 3 to 4:30 PM at the Redmond Library, 15990 NE 85th St. Drop in anytime for refreshments, climate conversations and information about local sustainability programs. This month's gathering also has City staff available to help teens and young adults ages 15 to 24 with Youth Climate Action Fund applications. So you can just stop by and talk, or bring your questions if you've got an idea for a project.👶 Parent & Me Play TimeGot a little one who needs to get out of the house? Parent & Me Play Time is happening Thursday, August 27, from 10 to 11 AM in Redmond. It's designed for young kids and their grown-ups, with time to play and interact together. This isn't drop-off care, so plan to stay and play with your kid. It's a pretty simple way to break up the morning, especially if you've got a toddler who thinks sitting still is a personal attack. Check the City registration page for the session details and resident pricing before you go.🏳️‍🌈 Beyond Binary ConnectionsBeyond Binary Connections meets Thursday, August 27, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the Redmond Library, 15990 NE 85th St. It's a casual, no-pressure social gathering for transgender and non-binary community members, with food, board and card games, conversation and space to just hang out. You can bring a game, a book or an art project, or just show up and meet people. All ages are welcome. If you're looking for something community-focused that doesn't feel like a formal meeting, this is exactly what they're going for.🎶 SoulFood CoffeeHouse Fundraiser & Community GatheringSoulFood CoffeeHouse is throwing a big community fundraiser Saturday, August 29, at 15748 Redmond Way. Featured bands play from noon to 6 PM, followed by an intermission from 6 to 7, then Drag Night and prize baskets at 7 PM. The goal is to raise money for SoulFood's maintenance and repairs, so you're getting an afternoon of live music while helping keep a local Redmond spot going. There are also Venmo and GalaBid options if you want to contribute. They played about one game a year against teams from neighboring cities and used the games to raise money for Redmond's Peewee Football League. The City of Redmond's centennial trivia says they raised thousands of dollars over the years. And yes, one of the team's original players was Kay Thomas, who was identified as a member of the Redmond Sexkillers in 1972.
