Refined by Fire — 1 Peter 2:11-25
from LifeWell Messages
From 1 Peter 2:9–25, this message argues that many who are not living well are struggling with their identity — and that God is not the author of confusion. Believers are reminded who they are: a chosen people, a royal priesthood, God's special possession, called out of darkness, royalty because the Father is King. The teaching moves from identity to calling to responsibility. Good works do not save — salvation is by grace through faith — but good works are the very plan prepared in advance for the saved. Believers are foreigners and exiles who must abstain from sinful desires, recognizing that sin begins with desire, as it did with David and Bathsheba. Submission to human authority is urged for the Lord's sake, with the limit that we obey God rather than men when the two conflict. Finally, Christ is held up as the stencil to follow: he committed no sin, did not retaliate, and bore our sins so that by his wounds we are healed.
