Refined by Fire — Refined by Fire
from LifeWell Messages
Fire destroys, but fire also purifies, warms, and gives life — a working image for how God refines faith. This message opens the 1 and 2 Peter series with Peter's own rebuke of Jesus in Matthew 16: having just confessed Christ, he recoils at the idea of a suffering Messiah and hears, “Get behind me, Satan.” Peter's instinct — avoid pain at all costs — is ours too. The teaching counters with God's perspective: refining adds heat to remove impurities, and God's will is that we look more like Christ than we did yesterday. The cost of discipleship is real even though salvation is free; taking up the cross daily is anything but easy. From 1 Peter 1:3–9, the message defines biblical hope as a living, patient confidence rooted in God's unfailing promises. Trials of all kinds will come “for a little while,” proving faith more precious than gold — and never underestimate what God can teach when you are refined by fire.
