Refined by Fire — The View through Tear Filled Eyes (1 Peter 4:1-11)

Prompted by a real tragedy — a friend's church devastated by the murder of a grandfather and four grandchildren — this message confronts the ancient question: if God is good and all-powerful, why does evil exist? Scripture does not dodge it; Solomon, Habakkuk, David, and the martyrs of Revelation all asked the same. From 1 Peter 4:12–19, the teaching holds three biblical truths together: God is good, evil is real, and God is sovereign. Peter is no health-and-wealth preacher; suffering should not surprise followers of a crucified Lord. The fiery ordeal — recalling Nero's atrocities against Christians — is real, yet there is fellowship with Christ in it. Suffering can build character, unify the church, and drive us to depend on God; deserved suffering, by contrast, should be avoided. The closing answer: God did act against evil — he sent his Son, who looks on our pain not coldly but with tear-filled eyes.
