Hello, hello, hello. Obviously, this is not Travis. His voice is not this I pitched. No, this is Carson Creighton.
And this is my first time doing a podcast. And I'm so excited to be here with you. And hopefully the podcast goes well. If it doesn't, you can tell me I promise I'll take the criticism.
Well, but let's let's just jump in. So today we're going to jump into Romans. And specifically, I'm going to read Romans 6, 2. So let's dive right on in.
Romans 6, 2. We are those who have died to sin. How can we live in it any longer? Oftentimes I think about what I'd be like or do if I lived in the time surrounding or during Jesus's life.
Like, what would I believe and what would I be doing and how would I react to this miracle man? I hope that I would be his follower that I believe. But I often think about that, what I would think and do. And here in Romans, Paul, the author, is writing about 20 years after Jesus died and then he rose again from the dead.
And so the shock and amazement was still fresh. And the word of this miracle was still even just getting out. It was so new. So thinking through this verse, I think I just want to tell Paul, well, sin can be fun.
And he has a response for that. Later in this passage, verse 21, Paul says, what benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed? And he's totally right. I mean, we've all been, we've all done a sin or we have sinned and then immediately regretted it or the consequences are far worse than the sin was good.
And sin is fun in the moment, but its consequences are not so fun. And Paul so clearly knew that. He was so confused why people who loved Jesus, who were accepting his words, were still sinning. But Paul, having been a part of all the commotion of this Jesus guy, he was on fire for the fresh revelations he was getting.
He was completely jazzed and riding on the high of the newness of Jesus's story. And we've all been there. We all got to experience the newness and freshness of Jesus and understanding his story for the first time. I remember my excitement the first time saying yes to Jesus.
I was 19 years old and I was in a college at my college in a stairwell. And it was the first time I said, yes, Jesus, I want to be your disciple. And I was so curious. I almost felt like the world, the whole earth should have shaken because this magic thing just happened.
I was so confused when I walked out and no one else had been changed. It just felt like, like I was just like, why don't you know? I just wanted people to understand what I had just experienced. That freshness, that newness, I was just so excited.
And my prayer for us today is that we would receive a freshness from the spirit. That we would say like Paul, how can we live in sin any longer now that we have Jesus? That we would remember the faith of our youth and that we'd be re-excited about saying yes over and over again to this man named Jesus. And so I'm going to pray for us real quick.
Lord, remind us all of our spiritual youth when we first said yes to you. Bring us back to that fire and fervor of our faith. Where sin seems so insensible, God, that we would just be so excited again. That we'd be like Paul where sin just doesn't even make sense because we're so tied to you, Father God.
That we're so close to your story and that we remember it like it was the first time, Father God. Be with us this week, Jesus. We love you so much. Amen.
