Regeneration

Being "born again" means God's Holy Spirit must supernaturally change a person's heart, and this cannot happen just by being baptized, taking a Christian name, acting like a Christian, or trying to be good on your own. Spurgeon explains that people who aren't born again cannot enter heaven because they wouldn't enjoy it anyway—since heaven is about praising God forever, and unregenerate people find even church services boring, they would be miserable in heaven. Spurgeon urgently warns his listeners not to wait until later to be saved because they could die at any moment, and he reminds them that unless they are born again through God's Spirit, they will be separated forever from their Christian loved ones who are already in heaven.A sermon delivered by Charles Spurgeon on May 3, 1857.
