Reiko Fueting

In this episode, I chat with Professor Reiko Fueting, who is a distinguished composer and educator. He studied composition and piano at prestigious institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden, Rice University, Manhattan School of Music, and Seoul National University, under the mentorship of influential figures like Jörg Herchet and Nils Vigeland. Since joining the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in 2000, Professor Fueting has held various leadership roles, including Chair of the Theory and Composition Departments, and currently serves as Dean of Academic Core and Head of Composition. Renowned for his innovative compositions, Professor Fueting has received numerous awards and commissions, with his works performed across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. His music is published by Verlag Neue Musik and featured on the New Focus label. A notable highlight in his career is the 2022 premiere of his opera on the mystic nun Mechthild von Magdeburg, performed at the reopening of the concert hall in Magdeburg, Germany.
