Rejection

1st Samuel chapter 8, starting at the 7th verse: 'And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.' Why does God tell Samuel that the people have not rejected him? God reminds Samuel of what was really happening: Israel had rejected God's reign over them by demanding a king like the other nations. Notice the words 'they have rejected me' — rejection is not always about us; sometimes people are rejecting God's authority, not our worth. True peace begins with seeing rejection through God's eyes. Are you taking rejection personally today? When we remember who is really being rejected and refuse to carry what is not ours, we can rest in God's reign with a trusting heart.
