Hi, I'm Megan Segura. And I'm Eric J. Maxx. And this is the Daily Dish, Bravo's official podcast.
So on Watch What Happens Live, Danielle Staub announced that she is retiring from being a real housewife in New Jersey. After 12 plus years being a part of the show, being one of the original housewives. Well, I have over the past 12 years and 10 seasons been a part of this whole franchise and I've been very happy to rally and stand on the platform and be here with all of you. But it is time for me to leave and do something that I want to do that makes my heart happy every day.
And so I will be never returning as a housewife again. Wow, she's saying the word never. I didn't know you were going to say the word never. Never returning as a housewife again with the Jersey girls.
Okay, but she didn't say, I've been part of this franchise. She said, I've been a real housewife for 12 years. That's true, in her mind. It's like, you were a housewife, I think she was for two seasons.
I think technically, yes, yeah. Yeah, so I was kind of stuck on that part of it. But I thought it was interesting that Andy didn't know she was going to say never come back. Right.
Well, it's crazy too, because announcing her departure on Watch What Happens Live, she was also the first guest in the clubhouse. Right. Way back in the day. Yes.
So it's kind of just like, come full circle for Danielle. Yeah. I wonder what Stephanie Holman thought. She's just like, I'll just sit here for this.
But because this is such a big announcement, Eric and I wanted to celebrate Danielle's most iconic moments on Bravo. Let's go back to when she was a full-time housewife. Season one, episode five. She is talking to her daughters about her boyfriend and starts to give them a little bit of advice about not giving your goodies away.
You know, your goodies are reserved for your husband, right, Christine? Right? Because I want you to have it a different way, both of you. I want you to have it different than I did.
Do you think Danielle followed that advice in her life? Like, do I think she waited for marriage all 19 times she was engaged? Something else, you know. Yeah.
Yeah, no. But at least, you know, it's one of those things where do as I say, not as I do. And that's the best that, you know, parents can do sometimes. How else do you give kids advice?
Obviously, the most memorable moment involving Danielle is that season one finale dinner where she puts a copy of Cop Without a Badge on the table. And then Teresa flips the table. I mean, what a moment for Danielle. What a moment for Teresa.
What a moment for housewives in general. Yeah, I mean, honestly, that I think really put housewives on the map. A hundred percent. I will say, too, when we've had conversations with Steve from Faces by Bravo, he identifies that moment for him as, like, I will never look away.
Like, I have to watch Housewives because of this. I mean, even outside of Housewives, in terms of pop culture, that moment has really, I think, translated beyond Bravo. There's one moment that I rewatch a bunch of times, and it's from season two. And it's that whole episode at the Country Club after the fashion show when Teresa says, is bitch better?
No money. I can't call you honey. Excuse me. I don't want to call you honey.
Don't call me. You are all packs. I don't want to call you honey bitch. Is that better?
Is bitch better? Here's why I love it. It's like a ten minute clip. I think we'll put a link to it in the description.
But it so much happens. Danielle accuses Teresa of her house going in foreclosure. I live in a $5 million home now. Danielle said my house is going to foreclosure.
It's none of her business. You know, it's more than my life. I was trying to be nice, and Danielle started. Ends with Ashley Holmes pulling Danielle's hair.
Let her out! What is that? Stop it! Stop it!
Let her out! Let her out! And then, you just have to watch. It's just insane.
Oh, it's absolutely insane. We've gotten a couple flashbacks this season on New Jersey, given what went down with Danielle and Margaret in the boutique with the hair pull. But it really goes to show how one moment can really change so much. And there was so much fallout from that with, you know, Ashley and these charges, allegedly, and all sorts of stuff kind of came out of that.
And it's just like, ooh, Ashley also commented on your picture of Jackson said you look really pretty. Did you see that? The makeup artist, not that Ashley. Oh, yeah, you're right.
Never mind. What about Kim G? Epic feud between her and Danielle. Yes.
Season 2, episode 13. They sit down together for lunch after Danielle was sort of speculating about Kim telling Teresa about finding her biological mom. She had, like, snapped at her daughter earlier on in that episode being like, no, whatever. Like, it was just really dark for a moment.
And then Danielle storms away from the lunch, and Kim kind of chases her out of the venue and starts, like, cursing her out and saying that she has square tits. Iconic. Right? I don't think her tits were that square, right?
Did that happen when you came from? It's like, where did that come from? I don't know. What about when Danielle had a girlfriend who happened to be a lesbian superstar, Laurie Michaels, and they performed on Watch What Happens Live.
Yes. Real close to you. You are the one I want to run to, the one I want to call. With all my dreams seem to shed, when it seems to lose it all.
The one I want to run to, the one I want to call, you're my God. That was a beautiful performance. It's very much another iconic moment that Danielle has had in the clubhouse, whether it goes from, you know, her debut there, first episode of Watch What Happens Live, this musical moment, and then her announcing her departure. There's been a couple of different musical moments in the clubhouse, but I feel like this one is its own type of musical moment.
Like, Erika Jayne's performed there, and you're sort of like, all right, well, it's Erika Jayne, it's fine. Luanne has her whole thing. This sort of felt a little different. Right.
You know? I can't quite put my finger on it, but something felt, like, different about this one. The performance? Yeah.
Well, I had Danielle rewatch some of her iconic moments once, and we talked about it on video, and she pointed out that Laurie was off key. Oh. And I was like, huh. We also should go back and talk about the lunch that she had with Caroline Manzo, which happened right after the Ashley Holmes altercation, and she called out Caroline's friend, who was an ex-NYPD police commissioner who went to prison.
You don't know me. This is the first time we've sat down in 12. That's right. The first time that you met me, had me investigated.
I never had you investigated. How's that going for all your friends who are under indictments right now? So there's all sorts of, like, touch points with Danielle and people on Jersey where it comes to sort of, you know, some shady ties, if you will. I don't want to say the M words.
I feel like that's dangerous. But it rhymes with? Glob. Bob.
Glob. You know? Bob. Yeah.
I mean, it's just sort of like, we get these moments, the whole, like, cop without a badge book. There's a lot of these things that are sort of known but unknown about Danielle's history and other people's connections that just sort of make me feel like, you know, it's probably better to not discuss that. Right. My favorite is the season two reunion of Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Oh, gosh. And Danielle walks off, and that's the moment that Teresa pushes Andy. I know. That was the first time we've ever seen someone put hands on Andy.
Yeah. I think it would be the only time, right? Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I think so.
You f***ing bitch! You want to f***ing fuck! You are a piece of garbage! Everyone else has sort of, like, pushed each other.
Yeah. Portia got, like, you know, Cynthia's tit out in season six reunion. It was, like, yeah, it was the first time I think Andy was ever, you know, victim to that situation. But, I mean, who gets Teresa more riled up than Danielle, except for recently, you know, but nobody's really got out of her skin more than her.
Did you acknowledge your nephew? Right. You didn't even say, did you acknowledge your nephew? Did you?
Yeah, of course I did. Yes. Do not bring up my family. What?
I do, I do! Do not bring up my family! You f***ing bitch! Do not bring up my family!
I mean, these ladies, they don't like family. Yeah. They like family. Don't mess with the family.
Don't mess with the family. Another sort of M-word mentality. That rhymes with Cobb. So, those were some iconic moments from very early on in Danielle's time on Housewives.
Let's fast forward a little bit to what we've seen unfold over the last couple of seasons because she's still delivering, or was delivering for us, this season and last season. Marty Caffrey. The whole wedding in the Bahamas. God, she was a bridezilla.
Bridezilla. I mean, that really, I think, was what caused the fallout between her and Margaret. I mean, she was so mean to Margaret the way that she was treating her throughout that whole experience and just making it so much about herself and demanding all these things and, you know, photo shoots on the beach and all of that. Like, it's just like, come on.
The photo shoot on the beach. Remember, Margaret was very displeased with that. Well, because I think past her 20s, it's not, it's weird. Right.
To really go that far into like, it's my wedding, like, we have to do this for me. It's like, well, this is your 20th engagement, you know, like, however, what wedding is that? I don't even remember. It's sort of like, reel it in.
Yeah. But she did not reel it in. They got married. How shortly after did they get divorced?
Like, months. Like, Kim Kardashian, like, 72 days type of situation. It wasn't long. Right.
So, another moment from the wedding that I thought was really funny or just also gross was when Danielle bit into the cantaloupe and put a hole in her tongue. I did not like that. Well, I didn't like it either, but it was just so, like, shocking. I was like, what?
Yeah, how does that, how? I still don't understand. What's funny about that is on the Real Housewives of New Jersey after show last season, Joe, Margaret's Joe, helped us out the bleeding. He was, like, there to, like, kind of care for Danielle or whatever, but he actually thinks that she bit a hole into her tongue to get more drama.
What? To get a little bit more time on camera. He said it in the after show. Oh, my God.
That is commitment. I mean, to, like, I would never. I can't. Like, no, there's no need to risk physical harm for camera time.
Right. But for Danielle, I mean, who's to say? Well, what about how last season ended? Not as much a Danielle iconic moment as much as perhaps a Margaret one, but.
Right, but she was part of it. Part of it. Your husband's in the pool. Your husband's in the pool.
Your husband's in the pool. What? Do you think that because Margaret and Joe became friends with Marty later on, they ended up buying him a new phone? Maybe Danielle bought him a new phone.
Right. Once they had sort of started to talk to each other again. So that leads us up to this current season. We've seen her make a bit of an impact in terms of her pulling Margaret's hair.
Prior to that, we really only saw her going out with, you know, Teresa for lunch or drinks and then going on the obstacle course. Not really iconic moments, but the hair pull, that's going to go down in history. That she's going to pursue food all the time. She said she has her own cooking channel.
So what I have seen of this, maybe it's on YouTube. I haven't investigated on YouTube yet, but I do follow Danielle. We follow each other on Instagram. But she's been posting a lot of IGTV videos of her like in the kitchen and her kitchen like preparing different meals and like kind of walking through recipes and stuff that she's making or whatever.
So I, you know, is there a prosperous future in that for her? Who's to say? Good for you. Good luck with this new endeavor.
Do you think that she now is able to because Teresa has kind of, I mean, why don't we get any more cooking books from Teresa? I don't know. That's a good question. Now she's like, oh, there's, there's room for a skinny Italian that's not Teresa.
Right. There you go. Well, Danielle, thanks for all you've given us. We salute you.
