Remembering Azuki Bean Wellington's Beloved Explorer
from Wellington News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Wellington is heartbroken after the tragic loss of Azuki Bean, a five-year-old black cat whose daring adventures captured the city’s imagination. His beloved Facebook page, “Where is Azuki?”, now renamed in his memory, has become a memorial for thousands of fans. Struck by a car and later euthanized at the vet, Azuki passed peacefully surrounded by love. His owner, Bibi, described him as a fearless explorer—like a rebellious teen—whose charm and curiosity endeared him to the whole community. As mourners pour out their grief and memories, Bibi asks for compassion, urging people to stop judging his boldness. Azuki’s legacy lives on: he’s nominated for SPCA Pet of the Year, with a chance to grace the 2027 calendar if he stays atop the leaderboard until June 29th—and he’s already raised over a thousand dollars for animal care. In his final message, Bibi reminds us to cherish every moment with our pets, for their love leaves an indelible mark far beyond the time we share.
