Davis was ranked among the top bassists in jazz history. He performed often with the genre’s top stars, including Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. In addition to his work in jazz, Davis contributed to landmark rock recordings, from Van Morrison’s “Astral Weeks” to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run.” He performed with the jazz masters of Indiana Avenue – including Freddie Hubbard, Virgil Jones, David Young, James Spaulding, Wes Montgomery, and J.J.
