Richard Jay Raskin The Brothers Raskin lost a giant today. Our father, Dr. Richard J. Raskin, passed away from complications from cancer. He's survived by his wife, Ellen, five children, and seven grandchildren. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, 13 March 1947 to Dr. John and Rosamund Raskin. The third of four children, Paul, Ruth, and Martha, Richard grew up in Vallejo, graduating from Vallejo High School. Richard earned a degree in zoology from University of California, Berkeley, and a medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. Richard was a physician, runner, writer, puzzler enthusiast, lover of video poker, excellent chess player, historian, woodworker, and master pianist. His left hand played an incredible stride piano and was passionate about jazz standards. Richard served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, and practiced medicine for almost 50 years. He died peacefully at home in Worchester, Massachusetts, 4 June 2024.
