Just off Highway 181 southwest of Floresville, the land holds the quiet history of a once-thriving community known as Ridout (pronounced RYE-dout). In the early 1900s, Ridout served as a small agricultural settlement for Wilson County families. It had all the essentials of rural life — a one-room schoolhouse, a church, a general store, and a post office supporting the surrounding farms. For those who lived there, it was a close-knit community.
