REMEMBERING THE BLUES BROTHERS

from 1001 Stories For The Road · host Host Jon Hagadorn

REMEMBERING THE BLUES BROTHERS: On April 22,1978, Saturday Night Live's Paul Schaffer announced an R&B act featuring two unknown blues artists, Joliet Jake E.Blues and Elwood J Blues- who went by the name The Blues Brothers. When the live audience saw them run out to the stage, they instantly recognized Dan Akroyd and John Belushi, and for one short moment the crowd, and millions of tv viewers, thought that a comedy act was going to follow. But their driving performance of "Hey, Bartender", with a first class band behind them, left no doubt that The Blues Brothers was here for good. It was a big moment in their careers, and for all those who witnessed that performance and the many to come, it was America's Best of Times.   Learn more about your ad choices.
