Revisiting the Wisdom of September 11
from Tony Robbins Podcast Daily · host Tony
September 11, 2001, is a day that is etched in the memories of Americans – the day that terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York City, killing nearly 3,000 people. It is a day that we remember: We remember astonishing courage and unspeakable fear. We remember incredible acts of compassion between strangers. We remember those we’ve lost, and we remember those who continue to fill our lives with love and meaning every day. That day was also the second day of a Mastery University event in Hawaii that had more than 2,000 people in attendance, including 100 New Yorkers – some of whom lost family, friends and businesses. Tony knew he had to address what was going on. How do you make sense of life when evil happens? Some good must come from that evil, because life is all about the meaning you assign to your experiences. Discover why meaning is everything at https://www.tonyrobbins.com/why-meaning-is-everything. As Tony says in the video, events do not cause your emotions. Your patterns cause your emotions. What you choose to focus on causes your emotions. Focus is one of the main components of the Triad of Meaning, which is made up of physiology, focus and language. When something happens, the language you use to talk or think about it controls your focus, which controls your emotions and the meaning you give to it. Long term, your values control your focus. If you value security, September 11 was unnerving. If you value contribution, you know you have an opportunity to make a difference in the world. Learn more about how your beliefs create your world at https://www.tonyrobbins.com/stories/date-with-destiny/beliefs-create-world so you can use them to empower you, not hold you back. With the foundation set, Tony uses the Seven Steps of Indirect Negotiation to mediate between Bernie, an Orthodox Jew, and Asad, a Muslim, who assigned opposite meanings to the events of the day. He starts from the understanding that everybody’s pain is real to them. No one will understand someone else’s pain, but everyone understands their own. Over the course of the day, Tony helps Bernie and Asad transform their mindsets, providing a valuable lesson on leadership in times of crisis. Watch the video to find out if Bernie and Asad reached an understanding. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
