English SummaryToday, I want to share a quietly happy shift that’s happened to me recently. When I started writing on Substack, I imagined doing this alone — articles first, then audio, then eventually a morning news roundup I began sharing after keeping it just for myself. Quietly, at my own pace. That was the picture I had.But lately, that feeling has started to change. One reason was joining a magazine started by Rie Sakuragawa called “note × Substack: A Connecting Collaborative Magazine.” When I joined, I wrote something on note: “Writing alone can sometimes feel a little lonely. But finding a horizontal connection with others who are also putting their words out into the world helps me feel like I can keep going, too.” Rie responded warmly, and that kindness gently pushed me forward.Another reason was Substack’s chat feature. Watching how others used it, warm exchanges quietly happening — I thought, “maybe I’ll try it too.”Actually, since I began the morning news roundup, there had already been people quietly pressing “heart” on my posts without ever saying a word. Even without language, each one of those hearts was its own kind of encouragement. Just knowing “someone is watching” gave me the strength to keep going. And then, once I started using chat, something unexpected happened: messages and comments began arriving from all kinds of people — “I read your note.” “I feel the same way.” “Please teach me more.” Each exchange is small, but every one of them carried real warmth.Honestly, in the early days, I often wondered if anything I wrote was actually reaching anyone. Days without any response made me question whether it was worth continuing. But now, with these connections quietly forming, something has clearly shifted — from “writing alone” toward “writing alongside others.”In my last post, I wrote about rereading the 72 articles I published last year. I thought of it as solitary work, but even that post got warm responses: “I know that feeling — looking back at old posts makes me cringe too.” Hearing that, I felt relieved. I wasn’t the only one.Writing is, at its core, something you face alone. But little by little, connections can form around that solitary work — and those connections can become part of what keeps you going. If you’re continuing to create but feeling a bit lonely doing it, here’s what I’d say: connection sometimes comes to you on its own. But reaching out first — leaving a comment, posting a small thought in chat, responding to someone else’s work — can matter too. From small steps like that, an unexpected circle can grow. What began as something I started alone has, little by little, grown into something shaped by connection with so many people. I’ll keep valuing this circle as I continue.Thank you, always, for reading. This is a public episode.
