Renee chats with Fidelco Guide Dog Client: Bill Belew

Long-time Fidelco guide dog user, Bill Belew, partnered with “Daphne”, his fourth Fidelco guide dog in June 2022.   Bill has devoted most of his working career to providing people who are visually impaired with access to, and the support needed, for effectively using computer technology. In 2003, Bill founded Belew Consulting, his third business venture. Now retired, his company provided clients with needs assessments, hardware and software set-up (including speech and braille), and one-on-one training and support.  An accomplished musician, Bill plays the clarinet, saxophone and is a drummer in a local Ashland, Oregon band. Combining his computer expertise and music interests, Bill was a partner in the development of an accessible 24-track recording studio.   Bill has advocated and lobbied for improvements to make downtown Ashland more accessible to people who are disabled (e.g., installing crosswalks announcing when it is safe to cross a street). He was also the first rider on an Ashland hybrid van that serves disabled individuals and others.
