Renewed Thinking for Transformed Living
from All Peoples Church Sermons · host Ps Nancy Ramya
Hello everyone, welcome, thank you so much for connecting. Today, we want to talk about the blood of Jesus and the power of the blood of Jesus. Let's try and understand why Jesus had to shed His blood for us. As we look at scriptures, we see from Leviticus chapter 17 and verse 11, the scripture says, ‘for the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.’ So, God had spoken to the children of Israel to make an atonement for their sins and it was done by the shedding of blood. And we note in the practices of these people that animal sacrifices were quite common and this is how they were able to reconcile themselves with God by offering up the blood of animals. Let's read another scripture, this is from Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 22 it says, ‘and almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.’ Let's consider these words purge from the Greek word ‘katariso’ which means to cleanse, to make clean or purify. The word remission there ‘afesis’ which means to pardon, bring deliverance, forgiveness, liberty and this scripture is stating that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission and it is the blood that purges or the blood that cleanses us. Now if we look at the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament, one of the things that the blood was able to do for the people was to cover their sins. We see that this covering again was quite temporary because they had to do it time and again to approach God. But as we look at what Jesus has done for us, the scriptures tell us that He became that one perfect sacrifice who shed His blood once for us and the blood of Jesus, it purges us, it cleanses our sins. It not just covers our sins, but it also takes our sins away and that's the powerful truth that we understand that the blood of Jesus has done something for us, that the blood of animals could not do. And because of this, we can depend on the blood of Jesus to cleanse us and reconcile us back to God. Hebrews chapter 10 and verse 18, it says, ‘now, where there is remission of sin, there is no longer an offering of sin.’ Remission of sin has taken place through what Jesus has done for us and the scripture also says there is no longer an offering of sin, that means that when Jesus has paid the price through the shedding of His blood, no other blood is required for us. We can depend on the blood of Jesus. He lived a holy life and shed His blood. He became the lamb of God who brought us salvation and this is such great news for us friends that we can count on the blood of Jesus, that one, perfect sacrifice and the perfect blood of the lamb that has not only purged our sins, it has brought us remission, it has brought us deliverance on every side. And as we believe in the Lord Jesus, you and I can experience the power of the blood working in this way in our lives. So, let's go ahead and let's pray and thank the Lord for His blood. Father, we thank you for Jesus, the perfect lamb of God, whose blood purges our sins, whose blood brings us remission. Lord, we thank you that it is that one, perfect sacrifice that we can depend on. Thank you, Lord, for sending your son to die for our sins, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
