Rep. Omar's Home Raided Weeks Before Midterms, Black Caucus Responds
from AURN News Hosted by Ebony McMorris
Federal agents searched the Washington home of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., just 22 days before the midterm elections, prompting accusations of political targeting from the Congressional Black Caucus. CBC Chair Rep. Yvette D. Clarke, D-N.Y., and other caucus members questioned the legal basis for the search and cited President Donald Trump's history of attacks on Omar. The Justice Department said Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a court-authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Reuters reports that the investigation concerns alleged immigration fraud involving paperwork completed by Omar's late father when she was a child. Omar's office denied wrongdoing and called the search an abuse of federal power, while the CBC called for fairness and due process as Omar seeks re-election.
