REPLAY: S1E15 Dan Smithman - A Long, Beautiful Road To Marriage Equality

from JUST DO YOU. · host Eric Nicoll

Over the past few months, the consistent threat around the potential loss of our human rights have been occupying my daily thoughts and wearing heavily on my soul.  So much so that I started to head back down a dark path that I work diligently to avoid.  I needed a "feel good" moment and a jolt of positivity coupled with a space of love and laughter.  Enter my conversation from earlier this year with Dan Smithman, formerly titled "Looking for the Beauty in Things."  I decided it was the perfect conversation for a REPLAY this week, especially given the amazing energy coming from the DNC a few weeks back.   As a reminder, Dan played a pivotal role in my coming out in 1994  and truly saved my life and we have been friends ever since.  To this day, when we connect, I walk away  feeling heard, empowered and a little tired from all the laughter!   Dan and I have fun reminiscing about our friendship but the one theme that rang loudly through the conversation was the vital importance of marriage equality for the LGBTQ community AND that we must use our voice AND actions in order to make change.Dan is a master at creating possibility not only in his own life, but openly shares that mastery with the world around him.  He is a FIERCE advocate for the LGBTQ community and I love Dan's unique view on relationships and marriage equality and can't wait for you to hear the journey he and his husband Josh have had together ... one wedding at a time, and yes there were many, all in an effort to bring awareness to the critical importance of equality!  Enjoy! Oh, and ...  As we get ready to elect a new President in just 7 short weeks, please make sure you are registered to VOTE: https://vote.gov  You know what the assignment is!
