During the early decades of the twentieth century, stories began circulating through the terraced streets of Yorkshire about something that came when a new baby was brought home. Families placed salt and rosemary around their houses. Keys were hidden. Holy water was brushed across window panes. And, in some streets, fathers remained awake through the night. They called it the Skreet.
