Representatives Are To Be Knowledgable Of Their States-Federalist no. 56

In this short paper, Madison addresses the dissenting opinions that the House of Representatives “will be too small to possess a due knowledge of the interests of its constituents.”  Madison cites that representatives in assemblies will learn of interstate issues from their colleagues and many representatives will utilize their own state laws to gain knowledge on their own states.  Additionally, some representatives will at one time have been state lawmakers as well thus already acquiring the needed knowledge to competently complete their duty.  Madison also brings up the unequal representation of Great Britain, where a politically advantaged few hold the power in election of parliament.
